Doppia Firma ยท 2024

The Palomba Serafini studio announces its participation in the Doppia Firma project, promoted by the Fondazione Cologni dei Maestri d’ Arte, developed with Living, the interior, design, and lifestyle magazine of Corriere della Sera, with the patronage of the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship.

For the occasion, the architects collaborated with the ceramist and restorer Anita Cerrato, an expert in oriental artisan techniques such as kintsugi or urushi, the process that uses colored lacquers for object repair.

Starting from the study of this technique, the project "The Architectural Care", created for Doppia Firma, was born. The architects and Anita Cerrato brought to light the similarities between architecture as practice and the technique of Urushitsugi, an analogy based on the concept of repair and rebirth.

While Urushitsugi transforms broken ceramics into new objects using enamel, where the signs of the breakage remain visible and enrich the final result, architecture adopts a similar philosophy in the process of historical layering: renewing, modifying, and evolving a building rather than demolishing, maintaining existing elements that integrate with the new.
